Formula
Standard drinks = (volume_oz × (ABV ÷ 100)) ÷ 0.6
Grams ethanol = volume_oz × 29.5735 × (ABV ÷ 100) × 0.789
Worked example. 12 fl oz at 5% ABV → (12 × 5) ÷ 0.6 = 1.00 standard drink, 14.0 g ethanol.

0.6 fl oz of pure ethanol — 14 g. That is the US reference; other countries define it differently, from 8 g in the UK to 10 g in Australia.
A 12 fl oz beer at 5% ABV works out to 1.00 by design, but real cans vary — a 5.5% pale ale in the same can is already 1.10 standard drinks.
